One of the most iconic gestures seen in practically all Kung Fu movies is the salute or bow. One of the meanings of the salute originates with the story, Heroes of the Water Margin, which Shaw Brothers adapted into the movies, "The Water Margin" (AKA "Seven Blows of the Dragon") and "All Men Are Brothers". The five fingers in the right fist represent the five main lakes in Ancient China. The four straight fingers of the left hand signify the four seas (North, South, East, West). Together, the five lakes and four seas, was the entirety of the world in Ancient China. The proverb, "Across the five lakes and four seas, all men are brothers." or more simply put "All men are brothers." is the message of this design. Although the proverb is androcentric, we can bring it's underlying meaning to today's world. We should work towards unity and equality regardless of ethnicity, gender identity, sexual preference, or skin color.
